![]() ![]() Although lock picking can be associated with criminal intent, it is an essential skill for a locksmith, and is often pursued by law abiding citizens as a useful skill to learn or simply a hobby. In addition, ideal lock picking should not damage the lock itself, allowing it to be re-keyed for later use, which is especially important with antique locks that would be impossible to replace if destructive entry methods were used. Lock picking is the art of unlocking a lock by analyzing and manipulating the components of the lock device without the original key. Make sure you can legally own one in your country before you try to buy one and only open locks you own or have permission to open. A person may then be required to be a police officer or locksmith by trade, or to have some other legal sanction, to be in possession of a snap gun. ![]() Some legal jurisdictions may classify snap guns as burglary tools or otherwise limit their possession. Although lock picking is often associated with crime, snap guns are not commonly used by criminals because concealment is difficult and the device will tend to attract attention from law enforcement. The first snap guns were developed to assist police officers in opening locks without the additional training required for traditional lockpicking techniques. Lockpick gun vs hand free#The snap gun is an alternative to a conventional lockpick, which requires other techniques such as single pin picking or raking to free the pins. A thin steel rod is inserted into the lock and the snap gun briefly fires the rod against all of the lock pins simultaneously, momentarily freeing the cylinder and enabling it to be turned using a tension wrench. A lockpick gun, also known as a snap gun, is a tool that can be used to rapidly force open a pin tumbler based lock without using the key. I think the best way to go about this is to do what looks or feels right to you.I show how locks can be opened using a lockpick gun. One last note - I didn't actually measure anything. Hold the non-flat sides of the piece with two sets of vice grips (pliers would theoretically work), and curve gingerly - so as to not break it along the curve. Use two sets of pliers, holding the flats of the piece, and twist away from one-another. Made by holding the piece with one set of pliers and bending against those pliers with your hand. I'll be using three different types of bending techniques with this instructable: The bend - usually 90 degrees. I also use these to make my tension wrenches, since I go through them so frequently (made an instructable for them - see it here). Sometimes, those guys will collect these for you, if you're nice. Save them when you change your wipers, or maybe go scavenge some from the auto parts store's rubbish bins. For anyone wondering, these wiper inserts are the two metal strips found in almost all windshield wiper blades. For this tool, it's ideal to use one of the longer wiper inserts (if nothing else, just to have extra material). The only tools you'll *need* are a pair of pliers and/or vice grips and a Dremel or similar grinding tool. #1 (green background) has a shorter throw #2 (wood background) has a longer, curved throw, theoretically giving more of a snap. I didn't think to document the first one, so I recorded the steps for #2. I recommend you at least have a good mental image of the finished product. I made these two without a precise design, and they worked out anyhow. Also - NEVER PICK A LOCK YOU DON'T HAVE A RIGHT TO! I only ask that you take it easy on me when informing me of such mistakes. I'll probably even give some false information. Being my first instructable, I expect errors in grammar, punctuation and such. Whatever medium you use, it's probably best I tell you that this is not my original idea. I just happen to have a surplus of these wiper blade inserts. There are plenty of designs floating around the internet, usually using a coat hanger. This particular tool is created using a windshield wiper blade insert. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, it's a good idea to find and read the MIT guide to lockpicking. ![]() This tools sometimes expedites hat by bouncing them all in a bit of a random fashion. The goal, as in all tumbler picking, is to get all the lock pins above the shear line at once. The tool works by bouncing all the pins above the shear line while you apply tension via tension wrench. It's thought that these tools helped those incapable of picking, but really they prove useful, even to the experienced picker. A pick gun (in this case a snap gun to be specific) is a tool locksmiths occasionally use in lieu of picking. Lockpick gun vs hand manual#This instructable will walk you through the creation of your very own manual pick gun. ![]()
